Rowan Derryth: Sorry I didn’t put out chairs, but we wll be wandering a bit
Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: We have chairs.
Rowan Derryth: There’s no dress code
Rowan Derryth: Also, since it is an art exhibit, I figured it would be more authentic to stand in the ‘gallery’
Linus Lacombe: That, and I wanted to wear this mesh suit!
Rowan Derryth: Nice!
Bookworm Hienrichs chuckles.
Rhianon Jameson: Good afternoon, fellow Salonistas!
Darlingmonster Ember: waves to M Jameson

Rowan Derryth: Hi Jimmy!
Dee Wells: *Jimmy
PJ Trenton: Hello Jimmy
Janet Rhiadra: greetings Master Jimmy
Jimmy Branagh: Hoy hoy hoy!
Bookworm Hienrichs: Another couple minutes, I think…
Bookworm Hienrichs: Or perhaps not. The Baron has reminded me that there are plenty of things following that we all need to go to.
Bookworm Hienrichs chuckles.
Bookworm Hienrichs: Welcome to this special edition of the AEther Salon, and our field trip to this amazing art installation!
Bookworm Hienrichs: Just a few bits of housekeeping-: please remove all lag-inducing HUDS, AOs, and other bits of frippery.
Baron Klaus Wulfenbach applauds
Bookworm Hienrichs: A tip jar for our speaker will be made available during the Q&A time.
PJ Trenton: Hey Saff
Bookworm Hienrichs: Transcripts will be made available on the Salon website at http://aethersalon.blogspot.com/.
Bookworm Hienrichs: And now to introduce our esteemed speaker.
Bookworm Hienrichs: Rowan Derryth is the virtual persona of an actual art & design historian based in the UK. She writes regularly on virtual art in Second Life in her column ‘Ekphrasis’, available on the Prim Perfect blog.
Bookworm Hienrichs: She is also the Curator for Avalon Arts Community, is a judge for the University of Western Australia (UWA) 3D Art Challenge, and is currently an advisor for the Linden Endowment for the Arts (LEA).
Bookworm Hienrichs: She has spoken at the Aether Salon before, regaling us in November of 2010 with a wonderful discussion of Aestheticism.
Bookworm Hienrichs: Welcome, Rowan!
Bookworm Hienrichs applauds.
Darlingmonster Ember applauds
Rhianon Jameson applauds
Rowan Derryth: Thanks!
Baron Klaus Wulfenbach applauds
Stereo Nacht cautiously waves around, being a bit late..
Rowan Derryth: Welcome to all of YOU!
Rowan Derryth: I’d like to thank you all for escaping the relative safety of New Babbage today, to take part on this little field trip adventure to our abandoned city here. I do think our journey should be relatively safe though… I mean, what could possibly go wrong?
Rowan Derryth grins
Bookworm Hienrichs chuckles.
Darlingmonster Ember: coughs
Rhianon Jameson gulps
Baron Klaus Wulfenbach chuckles
Aisling Sinclair laughs
Haveit Neox: lol
Rowan Derryth: Actually, this talk/visit will be a bit different because I’ll be talking about this in a mostly “OOC” manner. While many artists here take on virtual personas, we do consider the art that is made here “real”, even it cannot be touched. So what I thought we could do is I’ll briefly explain a bit about how this exhibit came to be, then we will do a quick whistle-stop tour down to PJ’s lovely underwater gallery where we can pause and I’ll tell you a little bit about the LEA, then have a question-answer session.
Rowan Derryth: Then, if you aren’t TOO exhausted, I’ve arranged for a DJ to play some Steampunk tunes in out most dangerous gallery… protective headgear highly recommended!
Darlingmonster Ember: keen
Rowan Derryth: I know there are other activites, but the Baron assured me some would want to stay to do a little dance, etc…
Rowan Derryth: So, the name of this exhibition, as you probably know, is ‘A Rusted Development’. The idea for this show was sparked by three separate-but-related things:
Rowan Derryth: Upon becoming an Advisor to the LEA just about a year ago, I was offered the opportunity to guest-curate a full-sim installation here on one of the core sims…
Rowan Derryth: At the same time, I had been hanging a show of my private collection in Avalon, and realised how much artwork I had, and loved, that had a rusty, even Steampunk look to it…
Beatrixe Rouse can’t help but hear a banjo and look for the Bluths
Rowan Derryth: Also at the same time, I was rewatching the entire series of ‘Arrested Development’.
Rowan Derryth: YOU GOT IT!
Rowan Derryth: hahaha
Darlingmonster Ember: hheh
Whispr: giggle
Rowan Derryth: (There’s always cash in the banana stand!)
Beatrixe Rouse: My ILLUSIONS Michael, my ILLUSIONS!
Linus Lacombe looks around for Bob Loblaw
Rowan Derryth grins
Rowan Derryth: So with opportunity combined with fancy and inspired by humour, I came up with ‘A Rusted Development’. I do not fully participate in the Steampunk communities – although as many of you know I like to ‘dip my boot in’ – but it is an aesthetic I very much enjoy…. These themes relate to my academic research interests in 19th century art and design (some of which I’ve talked about at previous Salons and events), alongside those of urban renewal, and dystopic/utopic narratives.
Rowan Derryth: As such, I envisioned an installation where there exists a main build – a “development”- that had fallen into ruin. It is subsequently rescued and repopulated by a selection of artists whose work loosely embraces similar themes.
Rowan Derryth: I knew I wanted to curate a group show, and I loved the idea of a kind of abandoned space that could be occupied, populated even, by some of my favourite artists.
Rowan Derryth: The first and perhaps biggest hurdle was, of course, the overall build itself. I knew I had to find someone who could make something that would not only suit this rusty theme, but also have the incredibly rare trait of being an immersive builder who was also open enough to have other artists come in and add their work to theirs. And in that, there was one very clear candidate for me…
Rowan Derryth: Haveit Neox.
Rowan Derryth: Who is standing here to my left 😀
Baron Klaus Wulfenbach applauds
Haveit Neox: Rowan, thanks so much!
Darlingmonster Ember applauds
Jimmy Branagh applauds
Rowan Derryth: One of the things that impressed me about Haveit’s amazing work ‘Second Libations’ was that not only was it an incredible build with a full, narrative backstory, but he had also solicited stories from others to include in his work.
PJ Trenton: Yay Haveit!
Janet Rhiadra: yayyyy
Rowan Derryth: Also, I knew Haveit to be one of the warmest, most down-to-earth (and least fussy!) artists I’ve ever met, in any world. His is a natural collaborative spirit, so I asked him to be my mastermind, and was thrilled when he accepted.
Haveit Neox: Thanks PJ!!
Rowan Derryth: I suppose I shouldn’t have been too surprised when, less that two days later, he had come to me with his own story of my idea, taking it far beyond my own imaginings. And that is what you see here.
Haveit Neox: I fainted
Rowan Derryth: Lol
Rowan Derryth: Haveit will tell you that story in just a moment.
Rowan Derryth: Not of him fainting.. of the exhibit
Rowan Derryth: heh
Haveit Neox: lol !
Baron Klaus Wulfenbach chuckles
Whispr: 8)
Rowan Derryth: With Haveit’s vision coming together, it was then up to me to rally the other artists who have contributed. I of course wanted a selection of work that would suit the build, but I was also interested in pushing collaborative boundaries, juxtaposing the work of those you might not normally see together.
Rowan Derryth: In particular, I wanted to combine the work of those who traditionally work on their own immersive builds, with the work of some of my favourite virtual photographers.
Rowan Derryth: (I have a soft spot for photographers.)
Rowan Derryth: 😀
Bookworm Hienrichs chuckles.
Rowan Derryth: And I must give an extra kudos to all: to the immersive builders – for some it was a huge step out of their comfort zone to contribute to something that they saw as wholly built already; and to the photographers, who each stepped out of the ‘2D’ realm to make their artworks that float, fall, and become part of the environment in a dynamic way. I applaud them all for taking the risk.
Rowan Derryth: It is also a credit to Haveit that some of the very finest jumped at the chance to be part of this work. Our ‘Rusted Artists’ are an impressive list:
Rowan Derryth: Rose Borchovski, Artistide Despres, Claudia222 Jewell, Bryn Oh, Scottius Polke, Ziki Questi, PJ Trenton, Blue Tsuki, Stephen Venkman, Eliza Wierwight, and Trill Zapatero.
Rowan Derryth: I hope you’ll take the time – if you haven’t before – to wander around and see some all their work, as we won’t have a chance to tour it all away. Some of it is rather hidden, you must look high and down low.
Haveit Neox: When you showed me that list, that’s when I fainted
Rowan Derryth: lol
Darlingmonster Ember: 😀
Rowan Derryth: I should also mention that shortly after we opened the talented machinimatographer Chic Aeon made a film which is playing on the media screens to your right. It was so lovely I added it to the exhibit.
Rowan Derryth: This was such a fun and inspiring project. I love collaborations, and everyone really worked hard. In addition to Haveit, my friend Ziki Questi, in many ways has acted as a co-curator, investigating technical aspects of the build that are beyond my skill, and was as always generally fun…
Rowan Derryth: And Mister PJ Trenton, my ever wonderful accomplice, let me (again) rope him into a project as designer extraordinaire (the gorgeous poster and this catalogue are his handiwork) and co-conspirator. He truly is the best partner in crime an art nerd could hope for.
Rowan Derryth smiles warmly
Baron Klaus Wulfenbach chuckles
Haveit Neox: Bravo PJ :))
Darlingmonster Ember: huzzah
Rowan Derryth: And now I’d like to introduce my good friend Haveit Neox, who built this amazing floating city!
Haveit Neox: Thank you Rowan
Whispr: ** polite applause **
Bookworm Hienrichs applauds.
Darlingmonster Ember applauds
Saffia Widdershins applauds
Haveit Neox: Thank you 🙂
Janet Rhiadra: yayyyyy
Haveit Neox: Rowan Derryth truly surprised me with an invitation to build a sim for an exhibit. Her idea was to present a rusted environment that spoke of an abandoned city: a place where artists would come to revitalize it. I was immediately hooked by the idea and very excited because a passion of mine is constructing cities. Expanding on Rowan’s premise, I wrote a background story to give it a history.
Haveit Neox: The fabled merchant city that rode atop the back of a gigantic whale met with a calamity that ended its existence abruptly. In the middle of the ocean, a horrific storm caused two huge ships carrying toxic chemicals to collide into the swimming whale city. The whale and all the populace died in the flood of chemicals that saturated the waves.
Haveit Neox: The whale turned to bones, and the city to rust, it was nearly half a century before this city adrift was discovered. An expedition of artists, searching for land to build an art colony, came upon the decomposing city. With the intent to regenerate the place, they set to work by first towing to safe harbor the floating mass. Each artist then undertook their vision. The empty shell of the city suddenly filled in and expanded as each artist found their niche in the Rusted Development. No longer at the mercy of invisibility, the city humbles its rusted facade to the highlights of the art within.
Whispr: How devastating 8(
Baron Klaus Wulfenbach raises an intrigued eyebrow
Haveit Neox: I’d like to add, that Rowan made this so easy on all of us. She was the conductor. I had the easy joy of building, but Rowan organized all of us.
Rowan Derryth smiles
Rowan Derryth: You guys made it easy
Haveit Neox: It was the first time I’d participated in a group build of this size, and it was the best experience I could hope for.
Rowan Derryth: Awww.
Rowan Derryth: As you can see, he did an amazing job.
Rowan Derryth: Thank you Haveit! Is everyone ready for a short little tour?
Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: Bitte.
Bookworm Hienrichs nods enthusiastically.
Blair Andrews nods.
Linus Lacombe: Certainly
Rhianon Jameson: Indeed!
Jimmy Branagh: Yeps
Janet Rhiadra: yes!!!
Lelani Carver: yes, please
Rowan Derryth: Great! This will be interesting I think, lol.. keeping us all together
Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: Lead on, Fraulein Doktorin.
Rowan Derryth: So basically all the artists were given the theme idea, then left to make whatever they like. When Haveit had the build largely done, they came over and scouted for spots to put their work. It was definitely a challenge, but they group worked beautifully together. I think the result is a bit chaotic, but in a way that really works for our idea.
Rowan Derryth: We are standing in front of Scottius Polke’s ‘Eden Oxide’, and you can come back later to take a ride on his ‘Boxyphant’.
Rowan Derryth: We’ll cross the bridge on the right and walk over to Eliza Wierwight’s work, but do be careful not to fall off! As we walk, make sure not to miss Blue Tsuki’s massive clocktower on the right!
Rowan Derryth: If you get lost, look for the umbrella hat!
Haveit Neox: lol
Rowan Derryth: omg the lag!
Whispr: giggle… is this what they call bottlenecking? As opposed to rubber necking??
Haveit Neox: yes, it would appear that even the lag is rusted here
Lelani Carver: good heavens, the atmosphere is as thick as molasses.
Jimmy Branagh: hehe
Jimmy Branagh: Schticky!
Kghia Gherardi: that worked 🙂
Rowan Derryth: Nice! Ok we will do that, lol
Rowan Derryth: Glad I asked for the EM powah
PJ Trenton: indeed
Rowan Derryth: Eliza’s contribution to this exhibit, A Fractured Fairytale, represents a bold new direction as she depicts the darker aspects of beauty, love, and pain in a series of visceral and at times shocking tableau.
Rowan Derryth: If you haven’t ever been to her store/sim Patron, you really should as it is simply gorgeous. This work is much darker than much of what you will find there, and I was pleased to give her the space to be able to push her artistic boundaries.
Rowan Derryth: While we are standing here, if you look in the direction I am facing, you will see a sphere hanging in the air. That is by Rose Borchovski, and you can explore that on your own, it is well worth it – but I also wanted to mention her as that work relates to the current installation on her sim ‘Two Fish’ called ‘The Inevitability of Fate’… and Rose is also one of our current AIRS, and her work ‘The Arrival’ just opened on LEA 23 last weekend 🙂
Linus Lacombe: Tis a far cry from her Christmas tree, which I had out this season
Rowan Derryth: Ha! Indeed
Rowan Derryth: PJ has lovely pictures here: http://virtuallypj.wordpress.com/2013/01/12/the-arrival-by-rose-borchovski/
Rowan Derryth: Let’s wander around then towards a more precarious part of the exhibit.
Rowan Derryth: You can try to walk on, or I can send an estate tp again, while you look around
Rowan Derryth: stay behind me please 🙂
Rowan Derryth: Miss Book, no running in the galleries 😉
Beatrixe Rouse: Hey, it’s Emerson’s Ants
Rhianon Jameson laughs
Bookworm Hienrichs: I don’t know why I keep running.
Baron Klaus Wulfenbach laughs
Rhianon Jameson: You’re simply excited.
Jimmy Branagh: It’s loike a school field trip!
Rowan Derryth: Indeed!
Rowan Derryth: Now, one moment
Whispr εжз: Many AO’s if you double click you will run
Rhianon Jameson: Theoretically, right, Jimmy? 🙂
Baron Klaus Wulfenbach is standing in ants
Jimmy Branagh: hehe
Lelani Carver is glad she’s wearing ant-stompers.
Rowan Derryth: Next stop: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/LEA1/131/183/34
Darlingmonster Ember: this is so impressive
PJ Trenton: need to call the exterminator again
Wildstar Beaumont: 🙂
Rowan Derryth: If you look up to the top of the tower, you will see Trill Zapatero’s wondeful chalice – her pieces are spaced around the exhibit so keep your eyes peeled.
Lelani Carver: Interesting being in here!
Janet Rhiadra: yes it is wonderful
Darlingmonster Ember admires the ants from UP here
Lucy Tornado pats the ants gently
Linus Lacombe: Where’s the Orkin guy when you need him
Rowan Derryth: It’s across and to the left
Rowan Derryth: BUT
Haveit Neox: lol !!
Rowan Derryth: Now, I need a volunteer – someone rather brave – to lead the way into the next gallery. It’s just across the bridge.
Rowan Derryth: Perhaps Master Jimmy?
Stereo Nacht: Heh.
Darlingmonster Ember points to Master Jimmy
Lelani Carver: Jimmy’s a brave scamp!
Rowan Derryth: HE BROKE THE ART!
PJ Trenton: uh oh…Jimmy broke the art
Janet Rhiadra: and a good dancer
Whispr: Oh, Dear!!
PJ Trenton: you haven’t left this part of the installation yet 😉
Rowan Derryth: NOW is a good time to run for it Miss Book 🙂
Rhianon Jameson: I didn’t do it!
PJ Trenton: art…what could possibly go wrong?
Rowan Derryth: Haveit is a cheater, he is flying
Lelani Carver: How can you heal a broken art?
Whispr: lol… art has no disasters… just new opportunities!
Haveit Neox: so true!
Rowan Derryth: well said
Darlingmonster Ember: wowser
Lelani Carver: This is quite wonderful!
Rowan Derryth: It is!
Rowan Derryth: Ziki Questi’s work really makes an impact!
PJ Trenton: performance art…doink
Whispr: hmmm… wonder if my parasol will help??
Bookworm Hienrichs: Who knew art could attack?
Janet Rhiadra: and a bit scary
Linus Lacombe: Splody…Tensai would love it
Rowan Derryth: And if you are brave, this is where we will have our dance party!
Darlingmonster Ember: laughs
Bookworm Hienrichs laughs.
Whispr: giggle… someone is rather… erm… prolific… so many canvases!! LOL
Whispr: Looks like most of my jr. high students’ lockers…
Janet Rhiadra: lol
Beatrixe Rouse: Hmmmmm…maybe Canergak will let me put stuff like this in the asylum and hospital
Rowan Derryth: Ziki Questi’s work really makes an impact!
PJ Trenton: hope nobody has an artattack
Beatrixe Rouse grins looking forward to it.
Darlingmonster Ember: groans
Rhianon Jameson: Hee!
Sredni Vashtar: hallo
Rowan Derryth rolls her eyes
Darlingmonster Ember: clutches chest
Rowan Derryth: Hey Sred!
Jimmy Branagh: Beans make you art.
Jimmy Branagh laughs
Rowan Derryth: We are still on the tour but you are welcome to tag along 🙂
PJ Trenton takes one off the noggin
Rowan Derryth: Let’s make a run for it down to the underwater gallery… we’ll come back here to dodge – er – dance – later!
Haveit Neox: one on the nogen PJ? This is my 14th
Rowan Derryth: You can run with me or I’ll send a tp!
Magda Haiku gets her bearings.
Wildstar Beaumont waves @ Miss Magda
PJ Trenton: bad place to try and get bearings
Magda Haiku waves to the Admiral.
Rowan Derryth: You’ll see as we go down there is a LOT more amazing work to explore here, which I hope you will do on your own. This exhibit will be here til the end of February.
Rowan Derryth: We just want to keep going down these stairs here until we reach the bottom.
Rowan Derryth: We just want to keep going down these stairs here until we reach the bottom.
Wildstar Beaumont: I am professionally against sinking
Baron Klaus Wulfenbach laughs loudly
Whispr: shouts: M. Haiku!! Reminiscent of last night, isn’t it!
Magda Haiku: Don’t worry, Admiral, I was a mermaid yesterday. I can provide professional assistance in instances of sinking.
Rhianon Jameson wonders how long she can hold her breath
Wildstar Beaumont grins
Lelani Carver looks around curiously
Magda Haiku distributes aerators among the crowd.
Janet Rhiadra: i enjoy my Mermaid form as well
Wildstar Beaumont: oh .. mermaids are magical .. near one of them you can breath indefinitely
Rowan Derryth: Come on down! http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/LEA1/35/131/1
Rhianon Jameson: That’s usually just hyperventilating, sir. 🙂
Whispr peeks under her skirt and hopes her scales aren’t reappearing with the water!!
Janet Rhiadra smiles
Wildstar Beaumont: :))
Rowan Derryth: nothing like accidentally tp’ing home
Magda Haiku: Holy cow, I want these chairs.
Rowan Derryth: heh
Darlingmonster Ember: grins
Rowan Derryth: You are welcome to sit, we will stay here fr a little bit
PJ Trenton: they really grab ya
Janet Rhiadra: ohhhh they are nice
Jimmy Branagh: ((Oy better go – gotta get ready for the nect event. See ya at the races!))
Darlingmonster Ember: travel safe Jimmy
Rhianon Jameson: Bye, Jimmy!
Janet Rhiadra: bye jimmy
Jimmy Branagh: Thenks Miss Rowan!))
Linus Lacombe: Bye Jimmy
Magda Haiku: Night, Master Branagh!
Rowan Derryth: Bye!
Jimmy Branagh: BYee awl!~
Baron Klaus Wulfenbach nods
Rowan Derryth: Every artist here is a ‘favourite’ for different reasons. But I know many of you are fans of PJ’s beautiful work. I’m so pleased with this because not only is it his beautiful photography, but he really too a leap in make a scripted piece too. PJ do you want to say something about this?
Stereo Nacht: See you later, Mr. Branagh!
Linus Lacombe wonders if talking textiles is part of the exhibition
PJ Trenton: I would be honoured 🙂
PJ Trenton: Welcome everyone to what I call Sunken Treasure
Rowan Derryth drops a sign on PJ
PJ Trenton: When I was invited to participate with all of these great artists, my challenge was what could I, as a photographer, contribute to this rusted, abandoned city.
PJ Trenton: I thought, what better than images of places that are no longer around…lost as the inhabitants of the city were.
Whispr: really impressive!
PJ Trenton: Rowan and I talked a bit more about it, and as a result, and with the scripting genius of Glyph Graves…the works have floated off the walls in this unfortunately flooded gallery
Darlingmonster Ember: awesome
Rowan Derryth: Glyph generously made this script just for PJ 🙂
Janet Rhiadra: i love the movement
Whispr: I could just get lost in here for hours…
Linus Lacombe: I wrote on one of these…was it for Primgraph?
Rowan Derryth: The artist community here is incredibly generous
PJ Trenton: I was very pleased with the effect…lost sims floating forever on the currents
PJ Trenton: Most likely Linus
Whispr: oooooo
Aisling Sinclair: lovely concept
Magda Haiku raises her hand.
Rowan Derryth: I thought this would be a nice place to pause and tell you a bit more about the LEA in general. So here is the ‘official’ LEA mission, which I’d be happy to expand on in questions 🙂
Darlingmonster Ember: gosh lovely movement
Rowan Derryth: Yes Magda?
PJ Trenton: The backs of each one have been marked with what sim they were…
Magda Haiku: Ah! And PJ just answered my question. :>
PJ Trenton: 😀
Rowan Derryth: 🙂
Rowan Derryth: So…
Rowan Derryth: The Linden Endowment for the Arts (LEA) was established to help create a center of arts activity in Second Life. The LEA is run and organized by users of Second Life, with resources generously donated by Linden Lab, and is committed to providing access to engaging experiences in the arts for the Second Life community. Through its exhibitions, programs, and events, the LEA fosters awareness of artists’ contributions to our virtual world and encourages others to get involved and be inspired.
Haveit Neox: The scripting really complements the images
Lelani Carver: Such attention to detail – as many old photos are often marked up by people long gone…
Rowan Derryth: (don’t mean to talk over you guys)
PJ Trenton: indeed
Rowan Derryth: please look around while I prattle on 🙂
Rowan Derryth: So in more practical terms, and a bit of history, Linden Labs originally set up nine regions to be used for art, and put out a call for committee members to run them. My understanding is that they also encouraged some key members of the art community to apply, such as Bryn Oh, who is still on the committee.
Rowan Derryth: The committee was established, but not really given any direction from the Lab – which as you can imagine was both a good and a challenging thing. Good in that they had the freedom to be totally autonomous and not be under LL’s thumb… challenging in establishing their goals.
Rowan Derryth: Like any new organisation, there have been growing pains, but in my view they original group did a great job getting things going. I’ve heard criticism that they ‘spun their wheels’ for a while, however I think that getting any new project launched is challenging enough – and doing it in this environment? Even moreso.
Rowan Derryth: In any case, based on their early projects and ability to show clear progress, they were able to negotiate 20 more regions (!!) from Linden Lab, for the purpose of providing them to artists for 6 months at a time – free! This the LEA AIRS – Artists-in-Residence – were born. Anyone is welcome to apply to be an AIR, and applications are reviewed and selected by the committee.
Rowan Derryth: Now that we have a couple rounds done, we have a pretty good system in place. We reconfigured the sims (if you look on your maps you will see 5 groups of islands), and 5 of us – myself included – act as liaisons to support a group of four AIRS.
Rowan Derryth: We are currently just over halfway through this round, and we set aside the first 4 months as a ‘build period’ – although most exhibits are already open. The absolute deadline though is the end of this month… and then we have a new exciting plan!
Whispr: You do an incredible job of organization for such a large project!!
Rowan Derryth: On February 2nd, we’ll be having a big arts festival! All the exhibits will be open, and we will have events, talks, performances, etc. We are looking forward to it! I’ll be interviewing many of the artists that weekend too, so do come out.
Rowan Derryth: We are currently on one of the original 9 sims. We use these for different purposes such as large-scale exhibits by guest curators like this one… Education projects… the very fun Avatar Games is run on one sim (it was on hiatus but will be re-launched soon by Honour Macmillan and team)…
Darlingmonster Ember: grand
Rowan Derryth: And we’ve just started a new grant programme for performance-based work. It has always been our intention to make sure we recognise the ‘s’ in Arts, and we are pleased to finally have that going!
Rowan Derryth: SO that’s the LEA! I’d be pleased to answer any questions you might have!
Whispr: very commendable!!
Rowan Derryth: You can learn more about the LEA at: http://www.lea-sl.org/
And keep up on the latest LEA exhibits and events at our blog: http://lindenarts.blogspot.co.uk/
Rowan Derryth: 😀
Ewan: Very generous and has benefitted all of sl society…:)
Lucy Tornado: LOL
Darlingmonster Ember: behind?
Bookworm Hienrichs: I think poster went poof.
Rowan Derryth: OH CRAP! Lol.. there is an autoreturn issue
Rowan Derryth: let me rez again and you can click fast, lol
PJ Trenton: lol
Rhianon Jameson applauds. “A very informative talk, Dr. Derryth! Thank you.”
PJ Trenton: everyone likes a challenge
Rowan Derryth: GO GO GO!
Lelani Carver: LOL, the best laid plans foiled again by autoreturn, so often happens
Rowan Derryth: 😀
PJ Trenton dives out of the way
Janet Rhiadra: this would make a wonderful spot for a mer gathering
Rowan Derryth: indeed!
Darlingmonster Ember: nods
Rowan Derryth: Actually I think Sred is playing some tunes, shall I tp you all back above and you can ask questions there?
Rowan Derryth: Those who want to stay for a bit
Magda Haiku: Which poster?
PJ Trenton: behind Ro
Magda Haiku: I’m not getting anything when I touch it.
Kghia Gherardi: Alas, there is another event. Thank you for a fantastic tour!
Darlingmonster Ember: nod, no script reaction
Stereo Nacht: Must be the lag… I touch but get nothing…
Whispr: It takes a moment, but it gets to you 8)
Magda Haiku: I think the technical term for what I am experiencing is “lagging like a mofo …”.
Blair Andrews: Same here
Rowan Derryth: crap, ok one sec
Darlingmonster Ember: snerks
Wildstar Beaumont: it is a bit laggy … I got it after some delay
Bookworm Hienrichs chuckles at Magda.
Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: shouts: Please show your appreciation to our speaker by tipping her directly.
Darlingmonster Ember: oh dear, then I am about to get 6000 hats
Bookworm Hienrichs: Does anyone have any questions about L.E.A. for Rowan?
Janet Rhiadra: me too
PJ Trenton: just laggy I think
Rowan Derryth passes out folders
Darlingmonster Ember puts down her click finger
Magda Haiku: Thank you!
Darlingmonster Ember applauds

Haveit Neox: Brava Rowan!!
Lucy Tornado: claps and cheers
Bookworm Hienrichs: Or about the ‘A Rusted Development’ installation?
Darlingmonster Ember: fantastic
Darlingmonster Ember: is there a windlight component?
Bookworm Hienrichs: Or is everyone completely gobsmacked by the amazingness around us?
Rowan Derryth: Thanks guys 🙂
Janet Rhiadra: well done Rowan!!!
Whispr: You mentioned there would be a depository for gratuities?
Bookworm Hienrichs grins.
Stereo Nacht: Sorry I must leave, the next Game Day event is the skating race in New Babbage…
Rowan Derryth: I’m going to tp back up and send tp’s to you
Baron Klaus Wulfenbach: shouts: Please consider supporting the Salon by paying the small airship.
Ewan: gobsmacked … nice term..
Rowan Derryth: I wasn’t aware of game day when I booked the DJ, so I understand if you must go
Bookworm Hienrichs: Unfortunately, permission issues. I’d suggest tipping Roway directly.
Bookworm Hienrichs: *Rowan.
Bookworm Hienrichs: When she tp’s us. *grin*
Darlingmonster Ember: fab event
Whispr: YAY.. it worked!!
Rowan Derryth: Rowan Derryth: Come and dance, but watch your heads! http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/LEA1/93/221/32
Rowan Derryth: Hi!
Sredni Vashtar: hi folks.
Rowan Derryth: Sorry it’s a bit chaotic, lol
Sredni Vashtar: there appears to be a lot of stuff on my head
Lelani Carver: Hi, Sredni!
Ziki Questi: there are some dance balls here and there
Linus Lacombe: I’d love to stay and dance, but RL calls, as it does so loudly these days
Sredni Vashtar: the stream is up. IM me with requests
Ziki Questi: they might be hard to click on at first because there are a lot of transparent objects around here 🙂
Magda Haiku: Awww. Night, Mr. Lacombe.
Sredni Vashtar: I’ll be starting things off with a bit of voltaire
Bookworm Hienrichs waits to see if the rest drop by…
Rowan Derryth: Night!
Magda Haiku: A raincheck for another dance, perhaps?
Ziki Questi has to go afk for a bit though!
Janet Rhiadra: nini Mr Lacomb
Linus Lacombe hands out a raincheck
Rowan Derryth: Not sure how many are coming Sred, some have another event I wasn’t aware of 🙂
Linus Lacombe: See you all later!
Magda Haiku grins.
Sredni Vashtar: huh. okay
PJ Trenton: should I request The Safety Dance?
Magda Haiku tucks the check into her back pocket.
Bookworm Hienrichs: Well, not everyone there was attending the Game Day events, so hopefully some will stay here.
Sredni Vashtar: only if you think it’ll help your cause
PJ Trenton: lol
Sredni Vashtar: here’s a funky german band playing funky german stuff
Sredni Vashtar: this is Die Funkhausgruppe with tanzpalast
PJ Trenton: I was looking at Ziki’s art…and then it hit me
Bookworm Hienrichs grins at PJ.
Janet Rhiadra: i’ll brb can’t hear the music
Magda Haiku: Why do I feel like I’m in a simulcrum of the Berlin alt scene in the 80s? ;>
Rowan Derryth: I have art on my mind
Sredni Vashtar: because you are!
Rowan Derryth: Art on the brain
Bookworm Hienrichs: I do have to go myself, though. Enjoy!
Magda Haiku: Oh yay!
Sredni Vashtar: PJ needs you all to be safe from falling objects, so his request for Safety Dance is up next
Bookworm Hienrichs waves.
PJ Trenton: lol
